Accommodating staff at the visitor center will make you feel welcome and give you the story of the Battle. You will have a good appreciation for the town folk and the soldiers for both sides of this Civil War battle.

I have toured this home no less than thrice. The tour guide let our girls try on a hoop skirt once. Many tours can be difficult with kids, but this is kid friendly. The slanted porch and curved staircase are very interesting. Even when the house is closed, the visitors center museum is informative. I love historic homes. This was a hospital during the civil war. It's worth a visit.

Watched the solar eclipse and beforehand, while my son and I were waiting, we went through the museum. Excellent. Learned something new of the local KC North vs South history.

Very fascinating battle story! Even more exciting is the history of the house. The staff were extraordinarily friendly, and all seemed thrilled to be talking to me about anything in the area. I felt so welcome! The $5 tour of the house was led by a sweet and hilarious lady, peppering the whole tour with jokes and fun facts. I wish it had been longer, because I could have listened to their stories all day!

We were there for the eclipse. Would love to go back for a tour of the house. They don't do tours on Mondays.
